Farm Inventions Built to Fix Bush Problems

Farm inventions at Sheepvention 2026 show how practical rural ideas can solve real problems involving safety, labour, livestock and machinery.

From a tractor-mounted fire unit to a titanium shearing handpiece and quick-clean water trough, these inventions were built around problems farmers actually face.

Tim Thompson joins Darren Sherman from the Hamilton Pastoral and Agricultural Society and rural inventor Rod Davidson for a walk through the 2026 Sheepvention Inventions Competition in Hamilton, Victoria.

The inventions range from very simple workshop ideas to advanced agricultural prototypes. They include a rigid-tine chisel plough, loader safety cage, adjustable round-bale handler, weighted gate holder, reinforcing-mesh lifting tool, hydraulic tractor fire unit, towable wheelbarrow, vehicle-mounted carrier, quick-tip livestock water trough and flat-pack feed bunk.

One of the major developments is a prototype titanium shearing handpiece designed to be lighter, cooler and easier on the operator’s hands, wrists, shoulders and back. It also incorporates wireless stop-start control and electronic sheep-counting technology.
