Steel Post Driver Attachment: Star Striker Test

Steel posts twisting inside a petrol post driver can pull an entire fence line out of alignment. We field-test the Wireman Star Striker to see whether this simple attachment can keep posts straighter and make fence installation more efficient.

The test also shows how one post-driver guide can handle both standard steel posts and larger posts without repeatedly removing the centre sleeve or making a second trip down the fence line.

Petrol post drivers can save considerable time when installing long runs of farm fencing, but they create several practical problems. The post can spin inside the driver, the operator may struggle to judge driving depth, and changing between standard and larger steel posts can interrupt the workflow.

In this video, Tim Thompson and fencing contractor Brad Ramage test the Wireman Star Striker under real paddock conditions. Brad explains how the attachment feels in use, how it helps guide a post as it enters rocky ground, and whether it would make a meaningful difference on a commercial fencing job.

The Star Striker grips and centres the steel post beneath the driver, giving the operator greater control over its direction. It also accommodates larger steel posts, allowing a contractor to install mixed post sizes in one continuous run rather than returning later to complete the heavier posts.
